Quentin Tarantino presents “Singin’ in the Rain” (2018)

This production of Singin’ in the Rain is Quentin Tarantino’s reinterpretation of the beloved musical as a companion film to The Blair Witch Project. He was unable to secure financing (or find a crew) for his pet project, so the budget was only US$10,000.

As with all of Tarantino’s films, he gave himself an artistic limitation: he vowed to not show or reference blood. This challenge emerged as his most difficult limitation to date, and Tarantino repeatedly declared, “I quit!” while writing the script. With the support of his friends, therapy, and an unspecified “substance,” however, he completed the film.

Some “Tarantitizens” are convinced that Tarantino was able to resist his compulsion to pour fake blood on things (whether or not he is making a movie) by making the film’s primary visual theme red. The secondary visual theme is also red. It’s all red; look, there’s a pathological amount of red, but no blood, so he was successful.

Due to Samuel L. Jackson’s preternatural profanity, Tarantino wrote the leading (only) character in the film specifically for Jackson. Tarantino was disappointed when Jackson could not star in the film because of scheduling conflicts. When reached for comment, Jackson confirmed a scheduling conflict. When pressed for details, Jackson indicated, “I’m f*****g busy not being a g*****n idiot!” Despite the absence of the Count of Cusswords, Tarantino stated the unknown actor’s cursing was “at least convincing” and “authentic.”
