I tried to avoid a crisis, but my father, Dan Hogan, wrote, “if that means you default on your loans so be it”

I see that you are trying to have a discussion with me about money.

On the one hand, I appreciate that you now want to talk about this and to talk about concrete actions.

The reality, however, is that at this time, I cannot afford the luxury of spending time and energy dealing with these loans. I tried to have this conversation with you at an earlier time, but I failed to get your attention. You didn’t ask me to tell you about my finances, for example, but I volunteered the information as far back as July 2010 (attached). About a year later is when you sent to me the email that is below. I wish we had been able to have a productive discussion when I was in a position to have that discussion.

I have no reason to believe that I will be in a position to have that discussion within the next few months. The ARDC case alone, which is not my only problem, looks like it will take 6-18 more months to resolve. I can’t even venture a guess as to when I will be able to turn my attention to the loans.

it is natural to want to support you but I need to get it that I can’t and will not support you the way you want; I got it now

I believe the attitudes and behaviors we as individuals demonstrate produce what they hold dear (i.e. holding fear produces fear, holding love produces love, etc)

you and I think and process our life’s experiences differently.  we have different attitudes and behaviors as to how we approach the world we interact with.  our judgments, decrenments and the way we process information, the way we manage our important and close relationships ….are different.

my approach works for me and you have never that I can recall told me I need to change

I need to do that for you too and mentally / emotionally let you go.

you have the right to approach life just the way you want.

if that means you default on your loans so be it
